Marlborough, Tuesday Evenings
The Yoga Posture-cise Class is for those who want
something in between an exercise class and a classical yoga class. Try it for free - your first trial lesson is FREE.
On this page:
This is a medium to high energy physical workout using hatha yoga postures with breath awareness for healthy joints and body. It has
some similarities to an exercise class (although not a substitute for aerobic exercise for cardio vascular health) but being based on yoga postures is health promoting and safe. The class lasts for 1 1/2 hours
from 8:00 pm every Tuesday during school terms. It is held in the Marlborough Youth Centre, St Margaret’s Mead. There are no youth
activities at this time and the place is usually very quiet. The floor is wooden blocks - ideal for yoga - and normally quite clean. Gas-fired heating keeps the hall adequately warmed in the cooler months
(although the fans can be a bit noisy when they are running). Good off-road parking is available. If students cannot make their normal class one week, they can normally turn up at an alternative DonsYoga
class.
If there is sufficient demand, the class will be immediately followed by a classical yoga extension of half an hour to cover mainly non-physical aspects of yoga.
Entry Qualification
As a new entrant you must normally have practised at Yoga Beginner level, or higher, with a qualified yoga teacher for at
least one term (10 weeks) within the last 3 months, including equivalent home practice.
However, if you are new to yoga (or a lapsed yogi) you may also join if you broadly understand & accept the difference between
exercise & yoga and the importance of awareness & conscious breathing. You should also be:
Alternatively, to get up to speed, you can request private lessons in parallel with practice at your home.
What You Will Do
In this regular ongoing class, you will:
Receive systematic structural flexibility exercises to extend or maintain the range of your joint movements
Many yoga asanas (postures) with some balance and some inversion
Move with the breath
Practice sequences of yoga postures like Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) and Agni Sarav (Fire Reverence)
You will:
Improve your sense of well-being and your health
Increase your suppleness and maintain healthy joints
Increase your energy levels, reduce tiredness and improve your sleep quality
Improve your sense of balance
Improve your sense of calmness and emaotional balance by working with the breath
N.B. There will be minimal relaxation and no explicit yoga philosophy, yogic explanations, pranayama (energy work using the breath),
concentration, meditation, linkage to spirituality, working in pairs, guided visualisations or use of sound (mantra, etc.). However, for those who do wish to add these classical yoga elements to their
physical work (asana), there will be an immediate follow-on session (subject to sufficient numbers)

Cost
There are flexible payment options so you choose which suits you best. There is a drop-in rate so you can pay as you go and save if
you cannot make a class. The rate for the regular attender rewards
the committed yogi. There is a good additional discount if you pay early for the whole term (and this avoids fiddling about with change every week too) or for just each half term if you prefer, although the
saving is slightly less. To claim your early payment discount, payment must be made by the last class of the previous (half) term, except for the long summer break when it is 3 weeks before the class starts -
13th August 2002.

Enrolment
Just decide on your payment option and if you want to take up the Special Offer of a free trial lesson, then go to the Enrolment page. For advice on how to prepare and what to
wear and bring, go to Don’s Yoga Classes page.
How to Get There (Marlborough Youth Centre)
From Marlborough High Street, going East towards the Town Hall, follow the A4 (Newbury, or East direction). After the double
mini-roundabout on London Road, take the first right turn into St. Margaret’s Mead. Take the first road to the right and the Youth Centre is at the end of this cul-de-sac,
If you want to refer to a map to the Youth Centre click here to go to the streetmap web site.
What to Wear & Bring
Please look at the wear & bring section on Don’s Yoga Classes page. You need to wear loose comfortable clothing, and preferably
have a blanket for padding in certain postures. You must have a non-slip mat - these are available for sale or hire by the week (you need to let me know if you want to hire or buy - follow link for full details). Also check the advice on how to prepare yourself on Don’s Yoga Classes page.
