This is an ongoing class for people new to yoga or the recent beginner. Each class lasts for 1½ hours. The class starts at 8:00 pm on Thursdays in Badbury during school terms. It is held in the large open plan training room of Fitness Unlimited. It is a low to medium energy hatha yoga class with a classical yoga background for healthy joints, calm mind and spiritual connection. Students may learn the practice of hatha yoga from scratch, and can continue in this class for perhaps a couple of years. The fundamentals of hatha yoga will be covered over a 10 week period every term if students new to yoga have joined. The 10 weeks is followed by 'normal' practice classes. If students cannot make their normal class one week, they can normally turn up at an alternative DonsYoga class.
The first 10 weeks of this term will be the Beginners 10 week course.

Entry Qualifications |

There is no qualification required apart from a genuine interest in yoga in its traditional form.

What You Will Do |
|
In the Beginners sessions you will:
- Receive systematic structural flexibility exercises to open up the range of your joint movements
- Learn most basic yoga asanas (postures)
- Learn basic breathing
- Learn basic relaxation techniques
- Learn basic Health & Safety
- Learn the basics of yoga philosophy
In the Improvers sessions, you will:
- Receive systematic structural flexibility exercises to extend & maintain the range of your joint movements
- Learn many basic intermediate yoga asanas (postures)
- Practice some yoga sequences like Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation)
- Learn & practice some basic pranayamas (based on using the breath)
- Practice relaxation techniques and experience guided visualisations
- Practice basic Health & Safety precautions
- Learn small elements of yoga philosophy occasionally
- Experience and practice occasionally other elements of yoga including concentration/ meditation, and the use of mantra.
You will:
- Open up the range of your joint movements for healthy joints
- Become familiar with many yoga postures and connect the breath with the posture so that you can practice at home
- Gain strength and stamina
- Gain a calm mind, sleep better and think more clearly and objectively
- Gradually lose fatigue, poor posture and odd aches and pains

Costs & Paying For Your Yoga |

There are flexible payment options so you choose which suits you best. There is a drop-in rate so you can pay as you go and save if you cannot make a class - available for a single class or a block, with a discount.
The rate for the regular attender rewards the committed yogi. There is a good additional discount if you pay early for the whole term (and this avoids fiddling about with change every week too) or for just each half term if you prefer, although the saving is slightly less. To claim your early payment discount, payment must be made by the last class of the previous (half) term, except for the long summer break when it is 3 weeks before the class starts.

Please note - the location of this class in September is not known, as the use of the existing facility may not be available. Please ensure you leave your email address with me so I can let you know of the actual location when it starts or if it changes during the term.
Existing location - Watts Barn, The Old Dairy, Badbury: From Junction 15 of the M4, take the A346 south towards Marlborough. Take the first turn left (about 500 metres from junction 15), signposted to Badbury. After about 10 metres, you enter the 30 mph limit sign for Badbury and The Old Dairy is on the right - the first building after about 50 metres. Go to Watts Barn (Unit 2 - entrance around the rear). If travelling from the south, the turning off the A346 is on the right after you enter the 50 mph limit for Chiseldon, passing the Esso garage.

What To Wear & Bring |
|
Please look at the wear & bring section on Don’s Yoga Classes page. You need to wear loose comfortable clothing, and preferably have a blanket to keep warm in relaxation. You must have a non-slip mat - these are available for sale or hire by the week (you need to let me know if you want to hire or buy - follow link for full details). Also check the advice on how to prepare yourself.
