Yoga is great for preparing the body and mind for pregnancy and labour, and getting back to normal after the birth. But do take care!
Preferably you should be practising yoga regularly for about a year BEFORE your pregnancy then it will be safe to carry on, with modifications and subject to the advice of your health professional. Many people turn to yoga after they are pregnant, and generally it is best not to start during the first 3 months, and certainly not without the blessing of your health professional. To start, when pregnant, it is best to have one-to-one private lessons from a yoga teacher with experience or qualifications in yoga during pregnancy. It is generally impractical to work within a general class as the teacher needs to spend time to ensure your practice is modified and safe for you. If you are already a practising yogi or are working with a yoga teacher, then one of these books should help you get the best from your yoga.
